Welcome to the Village

On July 4, 1827, the Village of Peninsula celebrated the opening of the Ohio Canal introducing the Western Reserve to eastern trade and became a "seaport town".

It had much of the color and flavor of eastern seaports with fourteen "honky tonk" bars and five hotels.

The village on the Buckeye Trail, tucked into the hills where the Cuyahoga River bends sharply to form a peninsula (hence the name), retains much of its ninetheenth century charm with its historic architecture, interesting shops, and restaurants. Get Map!
